To brew coffee with a French Press you'll need:
- French Press-3 cup
- Grinder
- Timer
- Scale
- Fresh Coffee
Measurements:
- Coffee Weight:36g
- Water Weight: 660g
- Brew Time: 4:00 min
- Water Temp: 200 °F / 93.5 °C for preheating
- 200 °F / 93.5 °C for brewing
- Grind: Medium-Course
- Yield: 20oz
Instructions:
- Warm up your French press. Pour a small amount of hot water and swirl it around to coat the sides. Discard the water.
- Weigh out and grind 36g of coffee on medium- course setting. Add ground coffee to the bottom of the brewer. Set the brewer with grounds inside on top of a scale and tare to 0g.
- Start the timer and slowly pour 330g of hot water over the coffee grounds, making sure to saturate all of the grounds evenly.
- Bloom the coffee. Let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds. This allows the coffee to release some of its CO2 and start to develop flavor. After blooming the coffee, without pressing down on the plunger, place the lid on the brewer.
- After 2 minutes, remove the lid and gently stir the coffee to further saturate all grounds. Pour the remaining 330 grams of hot water into the brewer and place the lid on.
- At 4 minutes, slowly and carefully plunge the plunger down to the bottom of the carafe. This will separate the coffee grounds from the brewed coffee.
- Enjoy! Serve your coffee immediately and savor the rich flavor.
Tips:
- Use filtered or bottled water.
- Don't over-extract the coffee. 4 minutes is an ideal starting point, but you can adjust the steep time depending on your personal preference.
- Be careful not to over-plunge the coffee. This can make the coffee bitter.
